Mo Betta Wood Butta – Premium Handcrafted Finish for Woodworkers

Give your turned pens, handles, bowls, and small projects the finish they deserve with Mo Betta Wood Butta — a handcrafted blend made right in the Diomedes shop for woodworkers who want a smooth feel, a deep sheen, and real protection.

This isn’t a cheap hobby-store wax.
This is a shop-tough, high-performance finishing blend built from:

  • Carnauba Wax for a hard, durable, high-gloss topcoat

  • Beeswax for warm adhesion and a buttery glide

  • Pure Tung Oil for polymerizing strength and lasting protection

  • Orange Oil for clean scent, easy spreadability, and natural conditioning

Mo Betta Wood Butta goes on smooth, buffs out beautifully, and leaves your wood with a finish that feels alive in your hands — rich, warm, and sealed against the elements. Whether you’re turning exotic hardwoods or polishing up everyday shop projects, this blend delivers every time.

Now available in 1 oz and cardboard tubes — easy to use, easy to store, and perfect for next to the lathe.

Handmade. Small Batch. No fillers. No shortcuts. Just better wood… with Mo Betta Wood Butta.

How to Use Mo Betta Wood Butta on a Hand-Turned Pen

The Diomedes Industries Method

Get a smooth, durable, high-gloss finish using Mo Betta Wood Butta with nothing more than your lathe and a soft cotton rag.

1. Sand to Your Final Grit

Work through your normal sanding progression (150 → 320 → 600 → 1,000+).
A flawless surface now means a flawless finish later.

2. Clean the Surface

Wipe away all sanding dust with a clean cloth.
A dust-free surface lets the wax melt evenly into the grain.

3. Set Lathe to ~1,000 RPM

This speed creates the right amount of friction heat without throwing wax.

4. Apply Mo Betta Wood Butta with a Soft Cotton Rag

With the lathe running:

  • Wrap a small piece of soft cotton rag around the stick of wax or load wax onto the rag like a crayon.

  • Press the rag gently against the spinning pen.

  • The friction melts the wax instantly, laying down a smooth, even coat.

You should feel the rag warm up — that’s perfect.
That heat is what activates the carnauba and begins the tung oil bond.

5. Buff and Level the Finish

Using a clean section of the same rag:

  • Keep the lathe at ~1,000 RPM

  • Apply light, steady pressure

  • Let the heat bring up the shine and smooth out the coat

This step gives you that buttery, glassy glow Mo Betta is known for.

6. Add a Second Coat (Optional, but Recommended)

For deeper gloss and improved durability:

  • Apply a bit more wax with the rag

  • Buff again

Two coats is the sweet spot for pens, handles, and small projects.

7. Final Polish (Optional)

If you want an ultra-gloss, showroom shine:

  • Increase lathe speed to 1,500–2,000 RPM

  • Lightly polish with a clean cotton rag

Carnauba loves heat — it will brighten right up.

8. Let Cure

You can handle and assemble the pen immediately.
Full tung oil hardness develops over the next 24 hours, giving you a stronger, longer-lasting finish.
