Oread – The Kephart Blade
Rooted in heritage. Forged for the wild.
Named for the mountain nymphs of Greek lore, the Oread is a blade born of two traditions—ancient myth and American woodcraft. Inspired by the legendary design favored by Horace Kephart, this knife is a tribute to utility, simplicity, and enduring craftsmanship.
Built for those who walk the wooded path, who cook over coals, carve by firelight, and carry only what they trust.
🔱 Steel & Edge:
Crafted from reclaimed saw steel—1084 with 2% nickel—the Oread carries a story in every cut. A high convex grind provides strength at the spine and effortless bite at the edge. The blade is treated with ferric chloride to add both protection and an aged, working-man’s patina.
At 4.25 inches in length, this spear-point blade excels in camp tasks: carving, slicing, food prep, and firecraft alike. There’s no flair for flair’s sake—only what works, and works well.
🌲 Handle & Feel:
The 5-inch handle is shaped for all-day comfort, with gentle curves that fill the palm without fatigue. Made from curly maple and traditionally stained with aqua fortis, it reflects the rich tones and textures of Appalachian woods.
Finished with brass pins and a brass lanyard tube, it’s a nod to frontier tools—simple, honest, and enduring.
🛠️ A Blade That Belongs:
The Oread – Kephart isn’t loud. It doesn’t boast. It simply does the work, like the men and women who inspired it. Whether packed for a week in the mountains or kept close in daily life, this knife is a companion—steady, faithful, capable.
